Meet the Cotopaxi Volcano, closest volcano to the equator and to Quito. 30 miles away from the capital, it is visible on a clear day. At an altitude of over 19,000 feet above sea level, it is considered to be one of the highest active volcanoes in the world!

The “Middle of the World” monument was built in the late 20th century,  commemorating the 1st Geodesic Mission of the French Academy of Sciences. It is where French scientists (and some Spanish naval officers) determined the equatorial line in 1736.

MINDO

Mindo is a village in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador. Famous for its multitude of bird species, butterflies and orchids found in the surrounding cloud forest, part of the Mindo-Nambillo Reserve. Known for its cable car that runs over the Nambillo River, trails leading to several waterfalls, Zip lines running through the forest canopy, tubing and more!

MOUNT CHIMBORAZO

Mount Chimborazo is the tallest mountain in Ecuador and the Chimborazo climb is non-technical, meaning you get a very high altitude without encountering sheer vertical walls that require technical skills like ice climbing.

The 6,268.2 m (20,565 ft) equatorial summit of Mount Chimborazo is also the closest point to the sun on earth. When measured from the centre of the earth instead of sea level it is the highest mountain on the planet.
